Pentecost Sunday at the Preaching Cave, Kilpatrick
Join us on Sunday 24 May at 3.00pm for a special Pentecost celebration and short service of Holy Communion at the historic Preaching Cave near Kilpatrick, Blackwaterfoot on the Isle of Arran.
This unique outdoor worship service is being held jointly with our friends at Arran Churches Together and offers an opportunity to gather in prayer, worship and fellowship in one of Arran’s most remarkable historic locations.
A Historic Place of Worship on Arran
The Preaching Cave at Kilpatrick has a long and fascinating connection with Christian worship and community life on Arran. Hidden amongst the low cliffs along the coast near Blackwaterfoot, the cave was used during the 19th century as a meeting place for worshippers connected to the Free Church movement during the Disruption of 1843, when many objected to ministers being appointed by local landowners.
The cave also served as a parish school and remains an important part of Arran’s religious and social history. Its soot darkened roof is a reminder of generations who gathered there before us.
Today, the cave continues to be a place of reflection, worship and pilgrimage for many visiting the island.
